C'est What?

COST: 99 cents

..UPDATED: 1/21/10, VERSION: 1.2 -- RATING: N/A Stars..

You might have an upcoming business or vacation trip to a country where they do not speak your native tongue. You could nod and smile a lot, and hope to get your point across that way! Or you could use C'est What? This is an ingenious little app that lets you take pictures of signs, and then translates that text into your native tongue. You could sure save a lot of time, aggravation and bad mistakes by reading foreign signs correctly. C'est What? is an invaluable tool for international tourists, business travelers, exchange students, or anyone who finds themselves in need of a translator. C'est What? uses Optical Character Recognition to inspect your image for text. It goes without saying that well-lit, clear, large letters in the sign would yield the best translation results. The results are fed through translation servers into whatever language is your preferred one. You will need an internet connection for this app to work because of the text transference to language servers. The servers are not secured, so make sure you are not sending sensitive text information to be translated. C'est What? recognizes English, Hebrew and most Western European languages. However, Chinese and Japanese characters cannot be recognized at this time from a picture. With any luck though, you'll soon see these language translations included. Don't be taken by surprise when traveling in a foreign country. Use C'est What? iPhone travel app to help you read road, shopping, hospital and other important signs.

"Imagine you're in a foreign land where you can't read the local language. No problem. You've got C'est What? Just snap a picture, and get it translated."
