Developer Snapshot: "First iPhone Navigation App with Adjustable Map Access! The App comes with a regional map and can easily be upgraded to a full US map coverage via In App Purchase."

Getting around this summer vacation is going to be fun and quite a breeze. I have previously used a standalone GPS unit, but when I noticed Navigon had lowered their price to $14.99 per region, I just couldn't resist, I had to get it. At this point, what's one more toy for this dollar consuming phone of mine! I purchased NAVIGON MyRegion U.S. East, and then had to figure out how to fit this navigation and maps app on my device. With only 8 GB (very pitiful, but I am anxiously awaiting the new 4th gen iPhone), I had to do some major juggling. Here's a very important NOTE! The only way to get this large app on your phone without an error message is to go to iTunes and uncheck the Sync box of any large file groups, such as Music or Photos so that you have roughly freed up approx. double the amount of space of the 1.4 GB app itself. Hold on, you won't lose your precious stuff! Just one uncheck mark each does the trick. Then install the Navigon app to phone. Once the app is installed on your device, go back and re-check those boxes you originally unchecked to put your Music and Photos back again. It's that simple, and these extra steps are necessary only because your device requires extra space during the installation itself. There are tons of features to NAVIGON MyRegion U.S. East, but just a few of them are as follows:

- Can be used in portrait and landscape format
- Precise voice announcements
- Intelligent address entry
- Reality View Pro
- Lane Assistant Pro
- Real signpost display
- Speed Assistant with adjustable audio-visual warning
- Day and night mode for map display
- Direct access and navigation to contacts saved in the iPhone’s address book
- Navigation is automatically resumed after an incoming phone call
- 2D and 3D map displays (bird’s-eye view)
- Take Me Home function with a single click
- Route Planning
- Text-to-Speech voice guidance
- Automatic Day/Night adjustment
- Integrated iPod control
- Location sharing via Email
- Google Local Search

Many more features are available that will make your trips totally enjoyable! Additionally, you can purchase other US regions for a small fee if you are planning on traveling out of your purchased area. I went for a test drive last night and was quite pleased with the turn-by-turn voice instructions and maps. You'll appreciate the bright and easy to read screen, although now I wish my iPhone was just a tad larger to use this navigation app! Eastern regions included with this app are: AL, CT, DE, FL, GA, IN, KY, MA, ME, MD, MI, NH, NJ, NY, NC, OH, PA, RI, SC, TN, VT, VA, and WV. Get out and have fun this weekend letting your Navigon take you for a spin.
