Going on the daily app hunt for novel and new ones today, I found Deer Hunter-First Shot. This app really gathers your attention and takes you back in place and time to a hunting scene where survival is the key. The story line runs like this... You are a seasoned hunter, therefore, the lives of each tribe member are your responsibility. Your duty is to scour your territory to find enough food for the winter. The best food comes from the mature elk and the boar, and they are your most coveted targets. Be sure though not to hurt the does and baby deer by mistake (that would be a crime!) Your obstacles are the mean, angry bear and buck because they are oh-so dangerous, and you will lose a life if they get you! If hunting the big animals is too difficult, you can always fall back on the widgeons and squirrels because any method of food will do. Your shooting skills are what makes the difference between life and death for your tribe. Some of the cool and intriguing features of Deer Hunter-First Shot are as follows:

On opening Deer Hunter-First Shot, you are transported into a forest world complete with the sound of birds and creatures of the woods. The medieval sound track is very relaxing and authentic, and the realistic 3D, sims background is just awesome. Once you have gone through the menu and made your selections from the opening screen, you are set to start hunting. You will use a crossbow to shoot to save your life, or to gather food by holding (pressing) the bowstring with one finger and the bow with another. The arrow will take off very realistically along with the sound of it being released.

I was very impressed with the quality and authenticity of the game. The graphics of the moving animals frolicking and running replicate those of the real world. I would definitely recommend this game for a whole new take on 3D action and adventure. If you ever wanted to hunt, but were never given the opportunity, here's your chance to be a part of that sporting world with the fascinating, cool iPhone game, Deer Hunter-First Shot.

How many times have you been working on the computer, reading or even snoozing and your child or significant other calls for you to take care of an urgent matter? Okay, let's not even examine the meaning of "urgent" here! Nonetheless, you just can't drop what you are doing and hoof it over there-you really need a few extra minutes to finish your own task. In that case, you would definitely be wise to use a reliable, super quick alarm system to warn you when your allotted minutes are up. That's exactly what Nag-One Tap Alarm does for you! In fact, just one single tap of your Nag sets off an alarm that will in no uncertain terms tell you that your brief respite is up, and it's time to get moving! It makes no difference if your device is using another app at the time because Nag is always working to "nag" you in the background!

I wondered just how I could utilize this alarm the other day, and within minutes had my answer. The neighbor had requested (or, should I say ordered!) that I come see her newly decorated home. I really did not want to drop my writing just to run over there to see some new furniture and make the appropriate complimentary noises! So I set Nag for 7 minutes and continued writing feverishly until the alarm went off. At this point, I promptly set it for another 6 minutes. Yes, I did eventually make it to the neighbor's, but not before I had come to appreciate the ease and convenience of this very sleek and attractive one-purpose alarm.

Open Nag and you will see a polished chrome or nickel looking display with buttons depicting +5, +10, +20, +30, +1 hr and an on-the-hour button arranged in a circle. In the center of this is a Stop button. At the top of the display is where you will see the actual time displayed when your alarm will go off. When I set the alarm for 7 minutes, all I did was tap +5, then swipe twice to the right on the bar display to add 2 minutes. Nag immediately displayed the time I needed to be disturbed. Now, if you want to clear the time, simply tap Stop. If you want to set a specific amount of minutes (say 40) simply tap a combination of buttons. You could tap the +10 four times, or the +10 and +30 buttons one time each. If you don't stop the alarm, it will remind you every minute until you acknowledge it.

As far as the alert sound effects go, you may choose from Siren, Bell or Toot. You may also toggle on and off the number button sounds. The bottom line is that you need never be accused of ignoring your duties (pleasant or otherwise) when you have Nag-One Tap Alarm to remind you of them. This modernistic iPhone alarm utility will be the quickest and easiest tool you have ever used to just give yourself "a few more minutes", and really mean it too!

The gorgeously colored background is attractive and fits right along with the happy and chirpy sound track. Lift Sparky in the air by dragging him up. Use the left and right arrows to change his direction. All in all, this game is one for the family. It's cute, well done and sure to bring smiles to many faces. Sparky the Dog is for animal lovers and anyone who enjoys a relaxing, but fun game!

If you just bought a new 4th Gen iPod Touch with the nifty camera, you're in for a lot of luck because ClearCam has been re-engineered just for you! I have used ClearCam previously for my phone and thought highly of it. It has worked well with the iPhone 4. What a vast difference to previous phone versions! Now, although ClearCam has been popular on iPhone devices, it has now been re-engineered to "fix" the low-resolution iPod Touch camera. ClearCam somehow allows you to take even clearer, sharper and better photos than ever. You don't have to set up anything in the app settings before you shoot. If you waste time doing that, the deer in the woods you want to capture will probably flee. ClearCam's advanced processing deals with life's perfect picture moments when time is of the essence. Besides, did you know that in enhanced mode you can get image resolution up to 11 MP?

You may use either Quick Mode or Enhanced Mode to take your shots. In Quick Mode you can actually take pictures while moving, as well as snapping several shots in a row. Moreover, the app works really well with very little light. To use the app in Enhanced Mode, follow these simple steps:

1) Capture
After selecting Enhanced Mode, press the capture button to snap 6 images and save them.

2) Align
Select the queue button in the lower right to view the images and align the 6 images to sub-pixel accuracy by pressing the align button.

3) Enhance
Apply super resolution processing to the images by pressing the Enhance button.

4) View and share
Once the processing is complete you can view the images using the multi-touch zoom functionality and save the enhanced image to the Camera Roll.

You may e-email your Enhanced photos once they are saved. Did you know that even if your phone is locked, ClearCam will still keep running? When you unlock your device, ClearCam will be ready, just like that. I guess as they say, "The proof is in the pudding!" You have to see the fine, clear shots that are produced in Enhanced Mode as they are very camera worthy. You will see the the question: State tree for Alabama is? Below that is listed the multiple choices. Tap one and Submit. You will either be told you were wrong and given the correct answer (no leaving you in the dark here), or you will be told you are correct and that answer will be displayed. Here's where the fun begins. Tap the answer, and you will be taken to a screen where all possible facets of the tree are provided for you to learn in a handy slider tool at the top of your display. Tap Illustrations and a sketched drawing of the tree is shown, tap Needle and a lovely close up photo will display the needles of that type tree, tap cone and bark and you will see photos of those. Next you will see a button for Profile which gives the background information on the tree, as well as Range showing the general vicinity in which the tree is found. There is also a handy Ruler to help you measure leaf size, bark thickness or whatever portion of that tree interests you!

And you thought you were just getting a game! This is a great family activity to sit around with on evenings, or even to use in the car on a road trip to identify trees as you drive along. There are a couple states where the buttons are not arranged in the right order to co-ordinate with the information contained within. Nonetheless, that minor fix does not detract from the wealth of data that is part of this educational game. This is the sort of game you want to see your kids playing because you know they are benefiting from it. Additionally, a teacher outside on a nature walk with her class could well use MyNature State Tree Quizz to stop and identify the native state tree which is learned so much better from a hands-on approach than from a book. MyNature State Tree Quizz is a simple, but useful, practical and educational app that certainly deserves your notice and intellect.

In case you haven't already guessed, next to technology issues, reading great books is my favorite past-time. I swoop in and out of the library a couple times a week, and constantly check out the best-sellers' list. This is not to say that I accomplish reading all the books I desire. However, here's a secret..I found a great, new way to track books I want to read or have already read. Let me share some of the reading gem features of BookLover with you below:

- Save the books you're reading, enjoyed reading, or want to read
- Scan each book's barcode for fast and accurate entry
- Take and save notes on your books, whether for book club discussions, to remember details so you don't borrow them twice from the library by mistake, or to make a note of whom to whom you've lent your own books
- View cover art for your books (if they are found via scanner)
- Organize your books on shelves, and also drag and drop them to re-arrange
- Share your book recommendations on your Facebook wall or by e-mail
- Get a synopsis for the books on your shelves
- Get tips on other similar books to read

Open BookLover to an attractive wood bookshelf with three shelves labeled Reading Now, To Read and Have Read. At the top of the screen you will see an "i" button, which gives you a synopsis of the book, and a "+" button, which allows you to manually enter in the title, author and ISBN of the book. You also have the option to select your color out of 5 choices for a book jacket, just in case your artwork is not found.

Hold on though, you can avoid all that old-fashioned manual typing if you just use the automatic barcode scanner denoted by a down arrow at the bottom right of your opening screen! Wow..this method is so quick and accurate, brings up the exact book you hold in your hands and places it neatly on your wood bookshelf, after you have saved it! I'm impressed with BookLover because not only is that a neat trick, but it has saved me a bunch of time in manual input. If you tap on your book, you will be taken to a screen where you may either share this book with friends via e-mail, or on Facebook, or write your own notes of your thoughts on the book using the "A" button. If you enjoyed this author, tap the light bulb icon to view other books by the same author. Remember that handy down arrow which takes you to the barcode scanner? It also serves to Sort Books By Author or Sort Books By Title on your bookshelf.

There are only a couple things I would add to this very helpful and well created app. I would add a share to Twitter field, and perhaps Date Read and Protagonist fields to jog my memory. I can now place that information in the Notes field, but would like to have it sortable. These are just minor items in an app that is going to remain on my home screen. So much so, that I am awarding it the Truly Cool Seal of Approval because the app is comprehensive, well crafted, attractive and easy to navigate. Bibliophiles, do not go without this handy app to sort out all the books you have read, are reading or plan to enjoy at a later date. BookLover is a top-notch database, iPhone Books app.

iAdventure-The Original [iPad]

As you can imagine, I've played hundreds of games on iPhone and iPad by now, in all sorts of genres such as word, board, puzzle, action etc. However, iAdventure-The Original is in a class all of its own. This game is an iPad recreation of the original Adventure game created by Internet pioneers in the late 1970's. It is presented in a "glass-teletype" format to capture some of the original feel of this period. How did this game come about, you may wonder, as you entrench yourself in its unique gameplay. Well, in the 1970's, an internet programmer created the first computer adventure game in his spare time. The unusual fact here though, is that it was based on his own experiences as a caver in Kentucky! And so, the mysteries of this game are such that, "Somewhere nearby is Colossal cave, where others have found fortunes in treasure and gold, though it is rumored that some who enter are never seen again! Still, magic is said to work in the cave..." That being said, iAdventure-The Original is now the iPad recreation of this awesome game. Some of the dynamic features of iAdventure are as follows:

- Original feel captured in the "glass teletype" style

- Sound effects and images enhance your adventure

- Includes the original source code in a syntax-highlighted browsable viewer

- Adventure history and lore with links provided to additional Adventure sites

- Internal browser for visiting Adventure hints and tips sites

- In-game notepad for taking notes while playing and browsing the hints and tips sites

First of all, you must follow the typed instructions to find your way to the cave. What will capture your attention immediately about this game are the changing background images and, particularly, the eerie sound effects (somewhere between spooky and futuristic!) I guess you could say this is an interactive story whose major elements are exploration and puzzle-solving where you as the protagonist use logic to unlock the pieces one at a time. Realistic cave descriptions and other-worldly elements all play a part in your journey through the cave. Lots of obstacles and mysterious happenings will come your way - just stay cool and work your way through the maze of trickeries.

Another cool fact is that in iAdventure, extras include the complete game source code in a syntax-color-coded viewer. You will also enjoy an in-game browser that provides links to Adventure tips and even a map for the game! Particularly helpful is the notebook where you can jot your puzzle-solving notes to avoid scraps of scribble throughout your home! Take advantage of using this notebook both in the game as well as in the browser. How cool are you under pressure? Put every bit of knowledge and experience you possess to work for you in iAdventure, the compelling, adventurous iPad game.
