With Siri and the included microphone on the keyboard, my life became so much easier. I'm not a thumb typist, and so I'd spend forever pecking out, revising (correcting the native auto correct!), and actually getting correspondence out! However, many other iDevice owners, and especially iPad owners, do not have the microphone and so communicating is definitely more time consuming and annoying as we type up our mail.
