Tunity has been my personal app of the week so far. Having come across it, I was curious to know what kind of usefulness would it lend me and others to stand out from the rest. Well, it's quite a unique, little app.
Tunity lets you watch TV without sound coming from the TV set, but actually through your iPhone. In this way, you can wear your headset and listen to whatever you want, without disturbing anyone nearby. It's quite a genius idea. It also acts as an excellent aid to the hearing impaired, allowing them to watch TV without frustration because they are hearing sound directly in their ears.
Tunity is simple to use, just point your phone at the TV set till it has captured the screen. It will scan the picture, and locate the channel you are watching. Then the sound will now come directly out of your phone. If the scanner does not grasp the channel right away, you can always manually tap on it from the list provided. However, I've had no trouble in with scans neatly fixing on the channel. It's really as easy as 1-2-3.
Where are places you can use Tunity? With your headset - in bed at night so as not to disturb your partner, at the gym so you can hear the news (or whatever inane show they usually have on the boob tube), at a sports bar, etc. If your hearing is shot because you were weaned on too much rock back in the day, you'll get your TV audio right in your ear with the headset. So basically Tunity is an iPhone wireless TV headset.
